AHP have successfully completed an extension and refurbishment of the mortuary at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough. AHP were appointed in January 2020 to prepare a feasibility study to look at options to increase the capacity of the existing mortuary. This progressed through to a planning approval, technical design and overseeing the project through construction to completion.
The existing mortuary had been working near capacity for some time and an extension was required to ease the strain on the existing facilities. The project includes an extension of 132m² to provide a new larger body store and reconfiguration of the existing the mortuary area to provide additional post-mortem facilities.
The mortuary needed to remain open throughout the works and therefore careful phasing of the scheme and good communication between the design team and hospital trust was essential. This ensured the successful delivery of the project with practical completion achieved at the end of March 2022 after a 12-month construction period on site.
