Typical relocatable MRI scanner unit
As part of Barts Health NHS Trust’s clinical strategy, a series of upgrade and replacement projects are underway to increase capacity of the current CT and MRI scanning services used to detect, diagnose and analyse a wide range of injuries and problems including cancer.
AHP were appointed to provide feasibility studies for a new MRI Unit at Whipps Cross Hospital in East London. We were retained by the Trust to prepare and submit the formal Planning Application, prepare tender information and other necessary duties relating to the completion of the project.
Whipps Cross University Hospital provides a full range of general inpatient, outpatient and day-case services, as well as maternity services and a 24-hour Emergency Department and Urgent Care Centre. The hospital provides vital services for people in East London and beyond. More than 1,600 patients are treated every day. The scheme will provide a much needed relocatable MRI scanner facility for the local and wider community, and will allow further development and enhancement of the services provided by Barts Health.
The unit is approximately 13m long and 4m wide and will be fully fitted with MRI scanner, RF shielding and ambient cooling system. It will be positioned adjacent to the existing Imaging and MRI Department and a new link corridor will attach the unit to the existing building and into the Imaging department corridor.
Works began onsite in January and are expected to be complete in the Spring.
