Employment futures expo a virtual success!

Yesterday evening, Fran Jones, and AHP's latest recruit, Architectural Apprentice Lily Smith, attended the fantastic Employment Futures Expo at Chase Terrace Technology College.  As a way of engaging the students (and parents) into discussing routes into a career in Architecture, we took our Oculus Rift virtual reality headset along.  Visitors to the stand took a virtual tour around a residential development (which is currently in for planning permission), and a contemporary dental unit.

We spent over 2 hours talking to students and parents, and had a queue for the VR kit for most of the evening!

With the recent growth in apprenticeships via the National Apprenticeship Scheme, the route into Architecture has become more accessible to students of all ages and backgrounds.  It was a pleasure to discuss this and share our experience of the scheme, and hopefully we inspired a couple of students to consider a career in Architecture.

Thank you to Julie Poppleton and her team for a very well organised and attended event; we will certainly be back next year.

Our favourite quote of the evening:

Fran: Hiya, are you interested in Architecture?

Student: What is it?

Fran: Real life Minecraft

Student: Got it.
