Upper Limb Studio - Stoke Mandeville

Stoke, Buckinghamshire

The upper limb studio, which officially opened in May last year, provides a form of therapy known as Activity Restorative Therapy, which involves the use of equipment to facilitate repetitive movement to improve the patients level of independence following spinal cord injury.

AHP acted as Lead designer on the project which saw the reconfiguration of two office rooms on the ground floor of the National Spinal Injuries centre on the Stoke Mandeville Hospital site to create a specialist therapy facility for patients with severe spinal injuries.

The design incorporates a complex ceiling solution, with interactive ceiling mounted audio-visual screen and alternating coloured LED mood lighting around acoustic ceiling circles. As part of the scheme, we included graphic manifestations to windows, doors and screens with a bespoke designed logo created by AHP for the Trust, The Phoenix Studio.
