description
The Orangery has a series of 18 large glazed screens, all of which were in various states of decay. AHP were appointed to carry out detailed surveys of these screens and prepare contract documentation for the full restoration and repair of the frames.
Numerous defects were recorded and Historic England were consulted to ensure the works did not compromise the building’s heritage. The Orangery was refurbished and replaced using oak frames, purpose made to match the existing ones. The brass glazing beads in the doors, which were remade rather than repaired, were removed from the old doors and reused in the new units with cylinder glass rather than float glass being used.
