Following a challenging start in gaining planning approval, Hadlow Rural Community School in Kent is now complete. Working under the design and build contractor, AHP were involved from inception to completion and are pleased with the result.

The school has a rural ethos and along with the traditional academic subjects, it allows the pupils to study in the outdoor environment in areas such as agriculture, horticulture and animal care. It was, therefore, important that the building be well integrated into the natural environment and countryside. The school is a contemporary and sustainable design to provide a modern teaching environment but, at the same time uses a palette of typical Kentish materials in order to help it sit comfortably within its green belt setting. The natural timber cladding will weather down to a silver grey as it ages to blend organically into the local surroundings.
